TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The wet weather is not only causing flooding; it’s also impacting workers at construction sites.
One such site is at the BancorpSouth Arena in Tupelo. Construction work to expand the arena started in November 2019.
Executive Director Todd Hunt said workers are 18 days behind schedule. However, workers should still finish with construction by December for the initial phase of construction.
"It seems like every time we get a couple of dry days,” Hunt said. “Then it will rain for three days straight. It's just been hard to string a lot of dry days together but we're doing the best we can.”
He said the staff will hold a meeting Wednesday to further discuss the construction.
"We're getting work done, just not as fast as we would like to,” Hunt said. “We're looking forward to this project, getting it completed to share the new spaces with the city of Tupelo.”
