WASHINGTON (WTVA) - POLITICO is reporting that state Senator Chris McDaniel is expected to challenge incumbent Roger Wicker in the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate.
Word of this comes as McDaniel made an announcement Monday night of a rally that will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Community College in his hometown of Ellisville.
The lawmaker made an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate in 2014 losing the Republican primary to Senator Thad Cochran.
Wicker, meanwhile, has been making moves since last year to defend his seat in Washington. The latest is the launch of two campaign commercials: one in the GOP stronghold of DeSoto County, the other in the Hattiesburg/Laurel media market, which is where McDaniel lives.
