JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann made a move that will likely kill a Senate proposal to change the state flag.
Mississippi Today reported Hosemann assigned the bill to the Constitution Committee where its chairman has no plans to consider the measure.
The decision came nearly a week after a Chism Strategies poll found 46 percent of voters surveyed wanted to keep the flag, 45 percent wanted to replace the flag and 9 percent unsure about a change.
The poll had a margin of errror of plus-or-minus 4 percent.
Hosemann has said he favored putting the flag issue before voters just like the statewide referendum 19 years ago.
