(WTVA) — Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley expressed his support Thursday for a bipartisan bill in Congress aimed at speeding up the expansion of broadband internet to rural America.
The measure would quickly give money to electric power associations ready to build the infrastructure needed to provide that service to its customers.
"This is legislation that could have the greatest impact on rural America since we brought electricity through the REA, and in our part of the country, the TVA," said Presley in a conference call with backers of the bill.
The commissioner said he had support from North Mississippi Congressmen Trent Kelly and Bennie Thompson.
Presley asked U.S. Senator Roger Wicker to throw his support behind House Resolution 7022 since Wicker chairs a Senate committee that deals with rural internet.
