NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - West Union School was temporarily placed on a precautionary lockdown on Tuesday.
The Union County School District issued a statement on its Facebook page at 2:43 p.m. stating the lockdown was still in effect.
The school district later stated that West Union buses would dismiss at 3:30 p.m.
Sheriff Jimmy Edwards explained that deputies went to a home in the area near the school to serve a warrant.
He said the person ran away.
The school is located off Highway 30 near County Road 303.
The “soft lockdown” was issued as a precaution, the sheriff said, but students were later released.
Edwards later confirmed the man they were looking for was arrested at a home on County Road 16, which is near the school.
