SCOOBA, Miss. (WTVA) - Police released four people from Noxubee County after they were being held in connection to a shootout at a Kemper County gas station.
WTOK in Meridian reports that the shootout happened Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Chevron gas station in Scooba along Hwy 45.
Investigators believe the incident stemmed from an altercation earlier that day at East Mississippi Community College.
According to WTOK, Kemper County Sheriff James Moore said one vehicle followed another to the gas station and minutes later two individuals began exchanging gunfire.
Investigators say at least nine gunshots were fired and four vehicles were struck. No injuries were reported.
Originally seven people were taken into custody for questioning, four from Noxubee County, but those four have since been released.
No formal charges have been filed yet and the incident remains under investigation.
