Update at 3:01 p.m. - Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton says police are now searching for two suspects following an off-duty officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning.
Police say the two suspects were seen robbing customers for money at the Princess Theatre in downtown Columbus.
"There is a patio there at the front of the Princess Theatre. The customers were sitting there when one of the robbers came up and asked them for money. They said, 'Freeze, give me your money,'" Shelton said.
An off-duty police officer was able to intervene. The officer was able to retrieve his personal gun out of his vehicle and confronted the suspects.
Police say this resulted in an exchange of gunfire with at least one suspect. Both suspects fled and the off-duty officer tried to chase after them. Police say the officer lost sight of them after about a block.
Police say the two suspects escaped together in a gold Honda Accord. One suspect is described as a black male, wearing jeans and an orange bandana.
Police do not have a description of the other suspect.
