TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Wednesday afternoon, Tupelo Police Street Unit Officers were attempting to make a traffic stop on a gold Infinity sedan for a traffic violation on North Gloster, according to Captain Chuck McDougald with TPD.
That's when a man inside the vehicle drove off, heading north on Gloster to McCullough, then south on Highway 45 before heading west on Main Street.
Captain McDougald said the Infinity collided with two civilian vehicles at the intersection of West Main and Rankin before running off the roadway.
The driver of the infinity then ran away from officers but was quickly captured, according to Captain McDougald.
The suspect assaulted an officer by hitting him in the face while he was being apprehended. The officer did remain on duty, said McDougald.
There were three more adults in the car, who were also detained.
One person who was inside a vehicle hit by the suspect was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The male driver is facing a number of charges and more suspect information is expected to be released Thursday.
