COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to not fall victim to a phone scam.
The sheriff’s office received several phone calls Wednesday from people who reported the scam.
To avoid non-existing arrest warrants, the scammers request the victim use a credit card to pay a fine.
The scammers call using the name “Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office” and have also specifically named deputies who work for sheriff’s office as part of the scam.
The public is urged to not send money or provide credit card information.
Anyone who is contacted by someone claiming to be a deputy or representative from the sheriff’s office is asked to call 662-328-6788.
