ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) - An accident on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway bridge in Aberdeen killed a 28-year-old man from Tupelo.
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley identified the victim as Antonio Dewayne Crayton.
The accident happened early Saturday morning at approximately 1:41 on the Highway 45 bridge.
According to information provided to Gurley, it appears Crayton came upon an accident while driving home from his job in Columbus.
Crayton offered to get help and traveled to Aberdeen to alert the police department.
He then came back to the bridge, and another vehicle collided with the Aberdeen police cruiser and also struck Crayton.
The collision sent him over the bridge, Gurley says.
Crayton did not land in the waterway.
Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Gurley says he recorded the temperature as 30 degrees when he arrived at the bridge and said ice had made the bridge slick.
