STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - A man is in jail for apparently panhandling for money while having a gun in Starkville.

Roger Forrester, 40, was arrested by Starkville police Monday shortly after receiving reports of a man with a gun near Highway 12, near Zaxby's, asking motorists for money.

The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun. Police say he never aimed the gun but believe he had it on his side.

Starkville Police Chief Frank Nichols says Forrester approached a woman and asked for money. He says the woman saw the gun.

Police say the woman gave Forrester change and drove away.

His bond was set Monday at $10,000.
