Panhandler arrested for robbery in Starkville

A man is in jail for apparently panhandling for money while having a gun in Starkville.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - A man is in jail for apparently panhandling for money while having a gun in Starkville. 

Roger Forrester, 40, was arrested by Starkville police Monday shortly after receiving reports of a man with a gun near Highway 12, near Zaxby's, asking motorists for money. 

The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun. Police say he never aimed the gun but believe he had it on his side. 

Starkville Police Chief Frank Nichols says Forrester approached a woman and asked for money. He says the woman saw the gun. 

Police say the woman gave Forrester change and drove away. 

His bond was set Monday at $10,000.
