OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Oxford police are warning their citizens of a phone scam.
"It’s a national thing. The scammers they never stop. They target every community and right now that target is Oxford,” Captain Hildon Sessums said.

That is why the Oxford Police department tweeted this tweet, to warn the community.
We wanted to let the public know that a scammer is using a @cityofoxford phone number (662-236-1310) and telling people they owe money. Scammers do this by "ghosting" a number by calling with a Voice-over Internet Provider (VoIP). pic.twitter.com/3v1T4TeSAz

"This is all done with voice over internet providers. The phone call is made through a computer and then reprinted through the internet," Sessums explained. "So then they can ghost the number and essentially make it any number they want."
No one in Oxford has fallen victim to the scams that the police know of.
Never give out your information or payment to someone who randomly calls you.
