OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - An Oxford man is accused of auto burglary and fleeing from police.
Captain Hildon Sessums with the Oxford Police Department says investigators have been working several auto burglaries around the walking trails on Chucky Mullins Drive for the past couple of months.
On Friday, October 12, police located a person-of-interest. The person was identified as Allen Mathis, 22.
Police say Mathis then entered a vehicle and stole a purse.
When investigators moved in to make an arrest, Mathis fled in a vehicle, police say.
As police pursued him, they say Mathis struck several vehicles. Police called off the chase after deeming it unsafe.
Sessums says Mathis’ vehicle was found a short time later abandoned behind a house on County Road 300.
Later, police placed Mathis in custody during a traffic stop.
Mathis is charged with six counts of auto burglary and one count of felony fleeing.
His bond was revoked because he was out on a felony bond for similar charges.
