AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) - Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley ruled Monday afternoon's wreck in Amory a freshwater drowning.
The wreck happened on the Highway 25 bypass.
Crews were seen pulling a vehicle from a manmade lake that was created during the bypass’ construction several years ago.
MHP Staff Sgt. Derrick Beckom and Gurley identified the victim as Dorothy Warren, 81, of Amory.
Beckom said she was southbound when the vehicle she was driving ran off the right side of the highway and down a hill and into the lake.
She was found submerged in the vehicle, the coroner said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Gurley ruled her death a freshwater drowning. She was wearing a seatbelt.
MHP is investigating.
Note: MHP initially said Warren was 82 years old. The coroner later said she was 81.
