OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - Okolona police are searching for a shooting suspect after shots were fired near a woman's car while she was inside the vehicle.
The police chief says the shooting happened Saturday morning near the National Guard Armory.
The woman tells WTVA she was about to drive home after a community cleanup event when she saw a male subject standing beside the car in front of hers. She says he was shooting at other vehicles. She says the male then made eye contact with her and drove away.
The eyewitness then adds, the suspect rolled down his window and fired random shots through the neighborhood.
She tells WTVA she was frightened and called her father who advised her to go to the safest place. The woman, who's a teacher, says she went to Okolona Elementary School.
Assistant Police Chief Jermandy Jackson says a vehicle similar to the one described in the teacher's encounter has possibly been spotted.
Police are continuing to investigate. If you have any information regarding this case, you are asked to contact the Okolona Police Department.
