OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health, National Guard, and the University Medical Center conducted a second round of coronavirus testing Friday in Okolona.
Despite the rain, the number of appointments rapidly climbed from 51 to 92.
Sgt. Adam Clayton of the National Guard said appointment continued to rise throughout the day.
State health workers brought testing back after Mayor Sherman Carouthers requested additional testing in Okolona. He was concerned about an increase in cases.
According to MSDH, there are 203 coronavirus cases in Chickasaw County, in which Okolona is located.
Clayton believes the mayor made the right call. He believes there might be another round of testing if a lot of Friday's tests return positive.
