JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - An investigation is underway into an officer-involved shooting that happened during the weekend in Tippah County near Walnut.
According to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office (AG), the incident happened Sunday afternoon, Oct. 17 and involved officers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).
One person, a 45-year-old man, was seriously injured. The AG's Office did not identify the man nor say if his injury was the result of gunfire.
According to new state law, for any shooting that involved a state trooper and resulted in injury, the AG's Office must designate a law enforcement agency or task force to investigate the incident.
The AG's Office assigned the investigation to the New Albany Police Department.
The AG's Office provided no more information about the investigation.
