CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) - The Alcorn County sheriff said a deputy shot a Corinth man Wednesday morning after the man lunged at deputies with a knife.
The incident happened at approximately 5:00 at a home on County Road 742 where a deputy met Robert Blackburn, 39, whom the sheriff said was armed with a knife.
The deputy tried to get Blackburn to drop the knife and had to his Taser gun and pepper spray.
Blackburn fled into the woods, the sheriff said, and returned about 30 minutes later when deputies again tried to persuade Blackburn to drop the knife.
A second deputy used his Taser, the sheriff said, and Blackburn then raised his knife and lunged at the deputies.
A deputy shot Blackburn once. He later died at the hospital in Corinth.
The sheriff did not identify the deputy involved.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the investigation.
