COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - A Columbus police officer was injured during a shoplifting arrest Saturday afternoon.
Police Chief Fred Shelton said the officer was injured during the arrest because the suspect tried to get away.
The arrest occurred at the Walmart in Columbus.
Shelton said the officer's injuries are non-life threatening. The officer is receiving medical treatment and is expected to be released Saturday evening.
The suspect was taken into custody and was charged with possession of marijuana, shoplifting and resisting arrest.
