MACON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Noxubee County Sheriff's Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Thursday morning.
Sheriff Tommy Roby said deputies responded to a home on Constantine Street in Shuqualak around 3:30 a.m. for a shooting. There they found a woman dead.
Chief investigator, Tina Williams, said emergency responders took the suspect to a hospital in Jackson after he shot himself.
The sheriff said the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation between a boyfriend and a girlfriend.
Noxubee County Coroner R.L. Calhoun said the woman was 30 years old.
Calhoun later said it's believed the boyfriend broke into the house, assaulted his girlfriend's roommate, then shot his girlfriend.
An autopsy will be performed.
Williams said even after 20 years in the field, cases like these can be difficult for law enforcement.
"Getting to know the citizens here in Noxubee County, it's a hard task for us knowing these is our people and somebody's children," she explained.
