MACON, Miss. (WTVA) - A small community in Noxubee County is shaken up after three murders take place in under a month.
All victims in the homicides were female and, according to officers, killed during domestic disputes.
Macon police chief Davine Beck said the first homicide took place in the small town on June 27.
The victim was stabbed by her boyfriend.
Police have since apprehended the suspect.
Beck said the second incident happened in Macon late last week.
Family members went to check on their mother and found her dead in her own home.
Beck said the person who killed her is still on the loose.
The third murder took place on Thursday morning in Shuqualak, a town just south of Macon.
A man shot and killed his girlfriend and shot himself; however, he is still alive.
Community members in Macon said more than anything, they're sad for their small town.
The chief backed up the emotions, saying this sort of violence is not common in their tight-knit community.
“This a small, small close-knit town. Everybody knows everybody," he explained. "We have our little small problems and stuff, but it just don’t measure up to this magnitude where somebody’s killing each other.”
Beck warned women in the area, if you're in an abusive relationship, tell someone.
