TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - One local hospital system is feeling the financial strain related to the coronavirus.
North Mississippi Health Services (NMHS) notified employees Thursday morning of furloughs starting next week.

CEO Shane Spees said the hospital system has seen a 40 to 60 percent reduction in the number of patients coming to its hospitals, medical clinics and outpatient facilities.
He said there is no government assistance currently for medical hospitals. He said the system expects to lose $28 million a month until patient volumes return.
NMHS is one of the largest rural healthcare systems in the United States.
Spees shared a video to NMHS' social media accounts explaining the situation. Open this link to watch.
Although the organization has to make this change, they said it will not affect their ability to take care of COVID-19 patients.
