Once completed, firefighters from Station No. 2 will move into the new station at the corner of Blair Street and Clayton Avenue.

Station No. 2 is the oldest station in the city. Fire Chief Thomas Walker said Station No. 2 has been on West Main Street for 64 years.
Over the years, he and city leaders have spent a lot of money on repairs.
“It was a lot of structural issues,” Walker said. “And it’s not like putting a coat of paint on it was going to fix it.”
The city is using bond money to pay for the new station, which means the city doesn't have to raise taxes to build it.
“It’s awesome to get a new one,” Deputy Chief Jimmy Avery said. “You know, just to have new quarters, updated appliances and updated technology and getting off the main road.”
Walker said Station No. 2 receives the most calls in the city.
With the new site, the trucks' sirens shouldn't be a problem for neighbors. Firefighters will turn them on in the event of heavy traffic.
