CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WTVA) - Election time is a busy time of the year, and for Calhoun City, it is a little busier this year.
The city has several new leaders, even before the elections are finished.
Compared to a month ago, the city has a different mayor, city clerk and police chief.
Investigators arrested Police Chief Latana Williams on March 10 and charged her with embezzlement. The Calhoun City Board of Aldermen voted to suspend her without pay pending the results of the investigation.
Former city clerk Raenell Moore submitted a formal letter to retire on March 31. Moore told WTVA 9 News she had been talking about leaving the job for several weeks. She intends to spend more time with her family.
Former mayor Amye Hill stepped down to move closer to family in the Mississippi Delta. Moore said Hill had put her home up for sale last year
Acting mayor Barbara Goodson is filling in until a new mayor is sworn in on July 1. Marshall Coleman and Dale Haze are on the ballot for mayor.
The working city clerk has been Debera Bailey. Jenny Lynn Hill will assume the role on Friday, April 16.
Ezra Conner is working as interim police chief. No one is on the ballot for police chief.
