NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - New Albany police are searching for a car thief and the stolen car.
The theft happened Monday morning sometime near 6:30 at Tony's Quickmart on West Bankhead Street.
New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson says the car's owner left the engine running to go inside the store to get something to eat.
Surveillance video captured a man with a backpack jump into the driver's seat of a 2014 Kia Optima and take off.
Robertson says the owner tried to stop the thief but was too late.
The vehicle is described as being maroon-colored with a license plate of PPH-221.
