TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Cinemark Theatres will not reopen June 1 in Mississippi.
Gov. Tate Reeves announced Wednesday the state is allowing ballparks, movie theaters, libraries and museums to reopen starting June 1 at 8 a.m.
Cinemark is not yet publicly discussing the details of its reopening plans and is “still several weeks out.”
According to a Cinemark representative, the theater chain is working toward a mid-summer opening date, depending upon health and safety regulations and the availability of movie content.
Cinemark says a return to “normalcy” may span multiple months, depending on different factors, including staggered theater openings due to government limitations.
Cinemark has theaters in Tupelo, Gulfport and Pearl.
WTVA also contacted Malco Theatres to determine if it will reopen its Mississippi theaters June 1.
Malco says its theaters are still closed and the company is working to ensure a safe moviegoing experience. Malco is expected to release more information soon.
Malco has theaters in Tupelo, Columbus, Corinth, Southaven, Olive Branch, Ridgeland, Oxford and Madison.
