Motorcyclist accused of assaulting Tupelo police officer

A motorcyclist from Belden allegedly assaulted a Tupelo police officer.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A motorcyclist is charged with assaulting a Tupelo police officer.

Police officers responded Sunday morning to the area of McCullough Boulevard and Coley Road for a report of an unconscious person on a motorcycle, according to the Tupelo Police Department. 

Medics also responded to the scene.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicated the motorcyclist was suffering from a medical issue or exhaustion.

Police say the motorcyclist, Cary Williams, 32, of Belden, agreed to let family members take him home.

However, police say Williams suddenly assaulted an officer.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail. He was also transported to the emergency room in Tupelo.

Tupelo police charged Williams with felony assault on a police officer.
