JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - Monroe County has some of the highest numbers of coronavirus cases in long-term care facilities (LTCF), according to the state health department.
Only Lincoln and Lauderdale counties have more with 41 and 60 cases respectively.
Monroe County also has seven LTCF deaths, as of April 21. That’s second in the state; only Lauderdale County has more with 10 deaths.
As of April 21, Monroe County has confirmed eight total coronavirus deaths since March 11.
Long-term care facilities, like nursing homes, are considered high-risk locations because their residents are older or in poor health, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.
