JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA/AP) — Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch said Wednesday her office is preparing a lawsuit against China because of the coronavirus.
“Too many Mississippians have suffered as a result of China’s coverup,” said Fitch in a news release. “They must not be allowed to act with impunity."
She said the state would seek damages.
Missouri filed suit Tuesday accusing China of making moves to try to hide the virus from the rest of the world.
It’s unclear whether the lawsuit will have much, if any, impact. U.S. law generally prohibits lawsuits against other countries with few exceptions, said Chimène Keitner, an international law professor at University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
