POLK COUNTY, Iowa (WTVA) — Law enforcement in Iowa found a teenage girl from Belmont whose disappearance triggered an Endangered/Missing Child Alert in Mississippi.
The sheriff's office in Polk County, Iowa, said officers found Monica O'Bryan safe at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at a high school in Johnston, which is near Des Moines.
The high school is more than 700 miles from Belmont.
A news release from the sheriff's office said Belmont police called before 4 p.m. Sunday reporting that the teenager may be at a Walmart in Grimes, Iowa. WOI-TV reported the store was evacuated.
The teen's grandmother reported her missing early last week from their home.
Belmont Police Chief Donald Thomas said he will release more information on Monday.
