ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) - The mom of the late Monroe County deputy Dylan Pickle is keeping his spirit alive every day.
Pickle died last July while conducting a safety checkpoint. His mother Debi Pearson set up a memorial scholarship fund.
The Dylan Pickle Memorial Scholarship will send the recipient through the police academy.
"I just want to make Dylan proud,” she said. “Everything I do, I do it to honor him."
The Dylan Pickle Memorial Scholarship will be used to send the recipient through the police academy.
Pearson said her son completed an academy for $3,600. She has raised approximately $6,500 so far.
She's completed fundraisers, such as raffles, to raise money for the scholarship fund.
Her next fundraiser is the Miss M17 Pageant on June 12.
M17 was Pickle's identifying number with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.
The pageant will include divisions for boys and girls. The deadline to enter is May 1.
A participant will also win the Spirit of M17 Award. Pearson said the contestant who does the most community service will receive the award.
