AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Local health officials are calling for a masks order across the state.
Right now the Mississippi State Medical Association is calling for a statewide mask mandate.
The owner of multiple McDonald's here in north Mississippi said he agrees.
“I think we should have it, but I’m not concerned about the policing of it,” said Robert Tomey.
Tomey says the method of enforcing the mask order is what Amory residents might not agree with.
“I don’t think a lot of people are going to be receptive. I understand the importance of it, but I think they’re concerned about the enforcement,” said Tomey.
However, as coronavirus cases continue to spike he feels everyone should wear a mask in public.
“I’m wearing a mask today not to protect me but to protect you,” said Tomey.
He says although masks may be uncomfortable, the purpose is to be considerate of others.
“They're doing it for you, so you need to in-kind wear your mask for those people who are going through the trouble to wear it for you,” said Tomey.
