UPDATE: Man accused of stealing MHP car captured during weekend

Update 12/04/18 3:19 p.m.

WAPT-TV in Jackson reports Sean Sharp was captured this past weekend and was booked into the Newton County jail.

Update 11/21/18 4:07 p.m.

WLBT-TV in Jackson reports the second stolen vehicle is described as a 2007 black Honda Accord taken from his brother's shop off Highway 49.

The manhunt has been called off for now because the suspect is not believed to be in the area.

MENDENHALL, Miss. (WTVA) - A manhunt is underway in South Mississippi for a man who stole a Mississippi Highway Patrol vehicle then stole another car, reports WLBT-TV.

According to MHP, troopers conducted a traffic stop at Highway 49 in Simpson County.

During the stop, 29-year-old Sean Patrick Sharp was taken into custody. While in custody, Sharp is accused of taking possession of an MHP patrol car, leading to a chase.

Troopers say the suspect made it to a home and stole another car.

The manhunt is taking place in the area of Highway 13 and Highway 149 in Mendenhall, reports WLBT-TV.
