TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — A man arrested for this week's shooting in Verona said he fired his gun in self defense.
"Somebody pull a gun out on y'all, yall going to shoot 'em, right?" said Timothy Randle while being brought to Lee County Justice Court Friday for his initial appearance.
Police said Wednesday's shooting outside the Chevron on Raymond Avenue happened after a fight.
Randle, 19, of Nettleton, said the fight was over money.
"I would have never shot him," said the suspect. "I just wanted my money back. That's all."
The shooting victim, Camron Ramsey, underwent surgery for five hours, according to police.
Chief Marsenio Nunn said Ramsey was in the critical care unit at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
As for Randle, a judge originally gave Randle a $100,000 bond for the shooting, but he revoked that bond at the chief's request.
"He (Randle) was previously out on a felony bond already for aggravated assault here in Lee County," said Nunn.
