Man arrested for biting Columbus police officer

Police in Columbus say a man bit one of its officers while being arrested.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Police in Columbus say a man bit an officer while being arrested.

Brian Bishop, 36, of Columbus, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, failure to obey a police officer, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana.

According to police, Bishop ran from officers Thursday when they smelled marijuana while investigating a stranded vehicle in the 2200 block of Main Street.

A drug officer chased him, arrested him and was bitten.

That officer got stitches in his hand before he was released from Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle.
