MSU quarterback undergoes surgery after Egg Bowl injury

Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald underwent surgery Friday morning just hours after suffering a gruesome ankle injury in the first quarter of the 2017 Egg Bowl against Ole Miss.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald underwent surgery Friday morning just hours after suffering a gruesome ankle injury in the first quarter of the 2017 Egg Bowl against Ole Miss.

Head coach Dan Mullen described the injury on his quarterback's right leg as a dislocated ankle.

University football officials say Fitzgerald is doing fine and is expected to make a full recovery.

On Twitter, Fitzgerald wrote what had happened to him was a "minor setback for a major comeback."
