MSDH reported 591 new COVID-19 cases and 19 new deaths Friday, March 5.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 591 new COVID-19 cases and 19 new deaths Friday, March 5.

New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 3 p.m. Thursday. Six deaths occurred between Feb. 26 and March 3 in the counties below:

Franklin 1
Humphreys 1
Lee 1
Leflore 1
Yazoo 1

Thirteen deaths occurred between Dec. 12 and Feb. 25, identified from death certificate reports.

Desoto 1
Hancock 1
Hinds 1
Jackson 1
Jones 1
Lafayette 1
Lamar 1
Madison 1
Montgomery 1
Panola 2
Tunica 1

As of Friday, March 5, there have been 296,745 total cases of the virus since mid-March 2020, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 6,783 total deaths.

The state health department estimates there have been 278,162 recoveries.

We will be mostly clear and much colder this morning following an overnight cold front. Some patchy frost will be possible. But through the day, sunshine should warm temperatures some. A light north wind will keep us cooler than average, though. Then overnight, clear skies and calm wind will make for another night of frost.
