JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 1,116 new COVID-19 cases and 9 new deaths Friday, Oct. 16.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.
New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Thursday. Nine deaths occurred between October 3 and October 15 in the counties below.

As of Friday, Oct. 16, there have been 109,255total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 3,160 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 94,165 recoveries. The MSDH usually updates its estimated recoveries total once a week.
