OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - The state department of health has ordered a child care facility in Lafayette County to suspend its infant care following the death of an 8-week-old infant.
Mother Goose of Oxford, Inc. must immediately cease and desist providing care or enrollment of infants, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH).
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs signed the order saying, “The facility has been determined to constitute a substantial hazard to the health and safety of infants entrusted to and cared for by said facility.”
The MSDH provided no further information about the death, only saying the Oxford Police Department is investigating the situation and the MSDH expects to receive a full report on Monday.
Mother Goose of Oxford, Inc. was licensed in 1999 and has received no monetary penalties during the course of its license, according to the MSDH. The last inspection was a month ago in October and received a pass pending based on the receipt of documents.
The facility issued the following statement:
“We have no comment at this time, we are fully cooperating with authorities in their investigation. Mother Goose has been in business for 42 years and remains open except for the infant rooms connected to this investigation."
The statement referred any further questions to the facility’s attorney.
