UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi Supreme Court will not review an appeal in a Union County armed robbery case.
Vincent Young, 56, pleaded guilty in 1990 to armed robbery and was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole.
As part of the agreements, prosecutors dropped an aggravated assault charge and agreed to remove habitual offender status from the charges.
Young filed a motion 25 years later to have the sentence reduced because under state law in 1990 only a jury could sentence someone to life for armed robbery.
In October, the Mississippi Court of Appeals ruled Young gave up the right to appeal his sentence when he reached a plea and sentencing agreement with prosecutors.
The state's highest court denied his request to review the appeal today.
