JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) will soon begin its Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period to help reduce roadway accidents and deaths.

The period begins on Wednesday, November 22 at 6 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, November 26 at midnight.

All available troopers will be assigned to saturation patrols to combat speeding and distracted driving issues.

Safety checkpoints will be established during the period to remove impaired drivers from the roadway and promote seatbelt usage.

During the same period in 2016, MHP investigated 171 crashes and two deaths and made 67 DUI arrests on state and federal highway systems.
