MHP to begin Memorial Day enforcement period on Friday

Troopers hope to reduce the amount of highway deaths during this Memorial Day period compared to last year.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - Troopers hope to reduce the amount of highway deaths during this Memorial Day period compared to last year.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin its 2018 Memorial Day enforcement period on Friday, May 25 at 6 p.m. It will end on Monday, May 28 at midnight.

MHP says all available troopers will be assigned to saturate highways in an effort to reduce traffic crashes.

Safety checkpoints will also be set up.

During this time last year, troopers investigated 122 crashes, which resulted in two deaths and made 110 DUI arrests.
