FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) and Itawamba Community College (ICC) signed an agreement on Tuesday for a new education program.
The agreement will create the preferred candidate program, which will give students a leg-up on becoming a state trooper.
The program is expected to begin in the fall.
Once students graduate from the program, they will have express admissions into the MHP trooper candidate school, Allen explained.
Currently, MHP patrols the state’s highways with just over 500 troopers. The agency is funded for 650 troopers.
