NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - Troopers reported two deaths as a result of a traffic collision involving two pedestrians Friday morning.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Staff Sgt. Bryan McGee said the wreck happened on Interstate 22 between Myrtle and New Albany.
McGee said he was notified of the collision at approximately 8:00.
He initially confirmed one death but later confirmed a second death.
McGee later said the two victims were changing a flat tire along the eastbound lane.
An eastbound pickup truck collided with the two and both were pronounced dead there.
McGee identified the two deceased individuals as Antavias Shye, 20, and Keon Williams, 21, both of Memphis, Tennessee.
MHP is investigating the crash.
Union County Coroner Pam Bowman said the two men killed were traveling to Tupelo for weekend training with the 658th Supply Company on South Gloster Street.
The duo had apparently stopped to help a woman change her tire, she added.
