JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has retired and a new director has been appointed.
On Thursday Gov. Tate Reeves announced the retirement of Greg Michel.

The governor signed a proclamation to honor Michel for his service to the state of Mississippi.
Reeves has appointed Stephen McCraney to fill the role.
McCraney began his new duties Thursday afternoon. He previously served as deputy director and the MEMA chief of staff.
McCraney is also a veteran of the Mississippi Army and Air National Guard.
