COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lowndes County sheriff is asking residents to use a new app to report crimes.
The app is called P3 Tips. It's free to use and easy to download from the app store.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said the app launched in the area Wednesday. Anyone can use the app to report crimes, tips, or suspicious activity to the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.
Hawkins said, "If law enforcement are able to develop a case and make an arrest out of this information, the app then gives you a code number to where you can go and collect a reward."
Users have the option to report anonymously and the option to upload pictures and videos.
Lt. Rhonda Sanders said anyone with a phone can download the app.
"If you’re out, if you have a recording, please download it, send it and let’s work together; we are better together," she said.
Hawkins hopes utilizing technology and allowing people to report anonymously will improve community relations.
