COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Detectives have charged a man with the murder of another man in Lowndes County.
According to Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins, detectives charged Donta Kirby, 36, with murder on Wednesday.
The charge stems from the death of Lorenzo Halthon, 28. Lowndes County deputies found Halthon dead the morning of July 2 on Burns Road, which is south of Columbus. He was found lying in a ditch on the side of the road.

An autopsy indicated Halthon died from multiple gunshot wounds.
On July 9, state troopers stopped Kirby, who was driving on Highway 82 in Webster County. The sheriff said Kirby reportedly fled but was later captured.
That same day, detectives searched Kirby’s home in Columbus. The search led to them charging Kirby with possession of a firearm by a felon.
“I am very proud of the work our investigative team put into solving this case," Hawkins said. "Their dedication to finding the person responsible for Mr. Halthon’s death led to Kirby being charged with murder.”
