COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Lowndes County Constable Hoot West had surgery on his wrist and hip Tuesday, according to his daughter's Facebook post.
"...they said it went fine," Debbie Edmondson said. "We have not been able to see him yet. They did add a broken sternum to the list...."
He will stay overnight in the intensive care unit at the Tupelo hospital.
Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright said deputies arrived at the scene shortly after the crash.
Emergency responders took West to the hospital by ambulance and later airlifted him to a hospital in Tupelo.
The wreck happened Monday morning after his car crashed into a tree east of Columbus.
Emergency responders said the accident happened in a curve on Harrison Road around 8 a.m.
