TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - A longtime football coach in north Mississippi, Jimmy Mitchell, has passed away.
He died Wednesday at the age of 68.
He formerly coached at Corinth and Tupelo High School, as well as several other local schools.
"I was fortunate to be able to learn from him both in the classroom and on the football field," stated Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton. "Coach Mitchell had a larger-than-life personality and will be missed by all."
"If I had boys, I'd want him to coach them," stated Rudy Young of Tupelo. "He was one of the best coaches any kid could have."
Funeral arrangements are not known at this time.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Jimmy Mitchell. A class act, always protected his kids & treated fellow coaches with respect. He definitely did it the right way.
