TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton confirmed that longtime Tupelo Public School District coach Mickey Linder had died.
Linder was 72 years old.
For 28 years, Linder coached middle school basketball and ninth-grade football for the Tupelo Public School District.
In August, Linder was honored at the Golden Wave football kick-off dinner.
Beginning next year, an award will be given to the Tupelo football player who best exemplifies Linder's characteristics.
At the time, former MSU quarterback Todd Jordan, who played for Linder, said, "He just got the best out of you. He was not a very big guy, but when he spoke he made you listen and he made you work hard."
